Basics

First steps

When you open Linknor for the first time, it guides you through a short introduction and asks for the permissions it needs. Then you bring your data into the app: from a backup, from your address book, and with your own contact at the center.

The introduction on first launch #

When you first open Linknor, it shows a five-page introduction. The first three pages introduce the app: “Your network under control”, “Smart inbox”, and “Discover connections”. Pages four and five ask for permissions and basic settings.

Tap “Continue” or swipe sideways to go to the next page. The dots above the button show where you are.

Tip“Skip” at the top right ends the introduction right away. You can then set up permissions and reminders later under More › Settings.

Access to contacts and notifications #

On the “Private & on your device” page, Linknor asks for two permissions. Both are optional. With access to your contacts, Linknor links its profiles to your address book and uses phone numbers, email addresses, and photos. The master data stays in the Apple address book. Linknor needs notifications for birthday reminders, follow-ups, and alerts about gaps in your network.

On the last page, “Ready to go”, you decide whether to use the app lock with Face ID or Touch ID and whether you get birthday reminders. “Get started” completes the introduction.

How it works

  1. In the “Contacts” card, tap “Continue”.
  2. Confirm the system prompt with “Continue”. The card then shows “Active”.
  3. Repeat this in the “Notifications” card.
  4. Tap “Continue” at the bottom, choose your settings on the last page, and tap “Get started”.
NoteBirthday reminders only work if you have allowed notifications. You can change both permissions later in Settings.

Restore a backup #

If you have used Linknor before, you get your data back from a backup. A file backup is a JSON file that you created earlier with “Export as file” and kept, for example, via AirDrop, Mail, or in the Files app.

If Linknor finds a backup in iCloud after a new installation, the app offers to restore it at launch on its own. Choose “Restore” or “Later” there.

How it works

  1. Open More › Settings › Backup & Restore.
  2. Under “File backup”, tap “Import from file”.
  3. Select the backup file.
  4. Confirm the prompt with “Restore”.
NoteRestoring replaces all data currently in Linknor. The confirmation points out that this cannot be undone.
TipUnder “Saved versions” on the same page, you find the automatic backups in iCloud. Tapping a version restores it.

Link your address book automatically #

Instead of linking each contact individually, Linknor can take over entire address books. An assistant guides you through the setup in four steps: “Sources”, “Scope”, “Review”, and “Apply”. Linknor only reads the selected address books; nothing is written back to the address book.

In “Sources”, you select the books. Use the pencil to rename a book and the magnifying glass to look inside it. In “Scope”, you choose “Entire Address Book” or “Only Specific Groups” and set filters such as “Skip Company Cards”. A preview shows how many people will be taken over. In “Review”, you decide between “One Person” and “Different” for possible duplicates.

How it works

  1. Open More › Settings › Address books › “Link Automatically”.
  2. Choose the sources and tap “Continue”.
  3. Set the scope and filters and tap “Continue”.
  4. Resolve open pairs and tap “Apply”.
  5. Linknor shows a report. Tap “Done”.
NoteThe assistant needs read access to your contacts. If syncing with iCloud is not finished yet, Linknor asks before starting.
TipLater, you use the same row to manage exceptions or choose “Change Sources and Scope”.

Set up my profile #

Your own contact is the center of your network. Linknor uses it for your relationships and roles, for placeholders in messages such as {{meine_email}}, and for your signatures.

In the “My profile” sheet, you see your reference contact. “Open & edit contact” opens the contact card in the address book. Under “Relationships, roles & content”, you manage everything linked to yourself. In the “Life areas & signatures” section, you set for each life area which email address, phone number, and signature Linknor uses.

How it works

  1. On the “Home” tab, tap the “Set up my profile” card.
  2. In the “Select me” list, choose your own contact.
  3. In the “My profile” sheet, open a life area, for example “Profession”.
  4. Choose an email address and phone number from your contact or enter your own values.
  5. Add a signature or tap “Suggest signature”. Then tap “Save”.
NoteTo select your contact, Linknor needs access to your contacts.
TipWith “Manage life areas”, you change the order, name, icon, and color of life areas or create new ones.

The interactive tour #

In seven steps, the tour shows you the most important areas: dashboard, contacts, organizations & roles, network & relationships, and help. At each step, Linknor switches to the matching tab on its own. The hint “Take a look at the tab below” shows you where to look.

After the introduction, the tour starts on its own as long as you have never completed it. You can repeat it at any time.

How it works

  1. Open the “More” tab.
  2. Tap “Start interactive tour”.
  3. Page through the cards with “Continue” and “Back”.
  4. In the last step, tap “Done”.
TipThe “X” at the top of the card closes the tour early. The counter at the bottom right, such as “2 / 7”, shows your progress.

On iPadOn iPad, you start the tour from the “…” menu at the top right of “Help & tips”. Instead of pointing to a tab, the card says “The section is highlighted in the sidebar on the left”, and the sidebar highlights the matching section.
